Acne Myths

Myth 1:
Myth The consumption of chocolate assists in the breakout of acne.

Truth The truth is that several research studies found no relation between the consumption of chocolate and the breakout of acne.

Myth 2:
Myth Eating pizza exacerbates acne development.

Truth This is far from the truth as there has been no evidence to suggest this claim. Consumption of pizza in moderation will not lead to acne breakouts.

Myth 3:
Myth Fried foods are cause acne breakouts.

Truth No findings suggest that fried foods cause acne breakouts.

Myth 4:
Myth Consumption of Coca-Cola and other sodas are bad for you if you have acne.

Truth Several studies have been conducted to check the validity of this claim, but no findings suggest that cola consumption promotes acne. It remains a myth. Drinks such as Coca-Cola are usually consumed by teens in fast food restaurants and if they frequent it often, or work there, the pores react to the grease in the environment and this could be the cause of flare-ups. Make sure to wash your hands if you have been handling oil or greasy foods.

Myth 5:
Myth Sitting in the sun or under a sunlamp will fight acne

Truth There is no truth to this as over-exposure to the sun causes skin cancer and premature aging. Alternatively, the sun does promote the production of vitamin D, which may help skin condition. If you are using Benzoyl Peroxide, we strongly recommend that you use caution in the sun by wearing a high SPF sun screen.

Myth 6:
Myth Dirty skin causes acne.

Truth The claim that dirt causes acne may be another myth. Some connections have been found, thus keeping the skin pores clear of dirt may prevent bacteria from infecting the skin. Special oil absorbing micro fiber facial cloths are probably the best way to grab dirt from the skin after using benzoyl peroxide.

Myth 7:
Myth Acne will no longer be a problem once someone reaches adulthood.

Truth This is not true for many people who experience acne as an adult, though the severity may vary. However, people above age 50 rarely get infected with acne.
Myth 8:
Myth A person with acne is often considered unclean.

Truth This is not true because most people with acne groom themselves with utmost care and may in fact be more health and hygiene conscious than others. Acne is caused by the secretion of sebum, which has nothing to do with dirt and cleanliness.

Myth 9:
Myth Harsh soap is good for acne.

Truth Mild soap is better. After washing the infected area, the area should be dried by patting the area.

Myth 10:
Myth Only presrciption drugs are effective when fighting acne.

Truth Many 5-10% Benzoyl Peroxide prescription medications are extremely harsh, can bleach your clothest, and can dramatically dry out your skin. When we were developing our idea of an ideal acne-fighting product, we chose to use 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide (no prescription needed) as we found it was light on the skin yet highly effective Though the above mentioned claims are misconceptions and myths, it is always better to be cautious about eating habits and to maintain hygiene at all costs. In recent studies, scientists have demonstrated the possibility of regulating hormones as a significant reduction element of acne. This could be a big step in preventing acne breakouts, but has many health-related drawbacks. Until then, it is better to maintain proper hygiene, evaluate your treatment options, and practice good eating habits to prevent acne breakouts
